What They’re Saying: Strickland Barnstorms Ohio, Touting Economic Fairness for the Middle-Class

COLUMBUS, OH — Last week Ted Strickland barnstormed Ohio, kicking off the general election with stops and events across the state to speak out for working families. Ted highlighted his Ohio Families First Plan to bring economic fairness for the middle class and called out Senator Portman for his failure to do his job and uphold his constitutional responsibilities by refusing the consider the Supreme Court nominee. Here’s what they’re saying:

YOUNGSTOWN: WKBN: Strickland kicks off general election campaign in Boardman. "Former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is ready to take on incumbent U.S. Senator Rob Portman in November. The man who’d like to be Ohio’s next U.S. Senator says there will be plenty of ways to separate his record from Portman’s. Strickland visited with about a dozen Democrat supporters at the Yankee Kitchen restaurant in Boardman Wednesday, less than a day after celebrating his big primary election in Columbus last night. He immediately chastised Portman and other Republicans in the Senate for refusing to consider Judge Merrick Garland, who is President Barack Obama’s choice to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.”

LIMA: WLIO: “Strickland is criss crossing the State of Ohio.” “Issues that he would like to address if he is elected to go to Washington D.C. is making college student loans more affordable and raising the minimum wage.  He says with majority of the wealth being made by small percentage of Americans, the people in the middle class need a break. ‘I’m proposing a middle class tax cut,’ Strickland says. ‘I want working people to get a break for a change, instead of all the breaks going to people who are already well to do and wealthy.”

TOLEDO: ABC: “Strickland Continued His Three-Day Working Families First Tour.” “The man trying to unseat Senator Rob Portman stopped in Toledo today. Former Governor Ted Strickland continued his three-day Working Families First Tour. He stopped by the Green Lantern diner, greeting voters and then enjoyed Jiggs dinner at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He said he will focus on the middle class if he’s elected. ‘We need to bring some balance to our economic system so that average people can get a part of the pie, rather than all of the wealth being concentrated in the hands of those that are already wealthy.’

TOLEDO: WNWO: “Strickland Campaigns for Measures to Help Middle Class.” “Ted Strickland won his Ohio Senate primary on Tuesday and today he spent the day talking to potential voters. Strickland is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Rob Portman. Strickland has experience in state government being Ohio’s governor from 2007 to 2011. Today he visited the Green Lantern on Broadway Street to talk about the working class. ‘I want people to get paid for overtime work. I want to raise the minimum wage. I want to do the practical things that can make life better for just average working people.’”
