Alliance Highlights Strickland's Strong Support for Programs like Social Security and Medicare
COLUMBUS, OH — Today the Ted Strickland for Senate campaign announced that Ted has earned the endorsement of the Alliance for Retired Americans, one of the nation’s leading organizations advocating for seniors.
In endorsing Ted, the Alliance for Retired Americans stated the following:
“The Alliance for Retired Americans, representing more than 4.3 million retirees, older Americans, and community activists including more than 267,345 members in Ohio endorses your candidacy in the primary for the United States Senate.
“Your positions demonstrate a strong commitment to improve the quality of life for older Americans. Your leadership on issues such as preserving and protecting Social Security and Medicare from privatization and benefit cuts ensures these programs will be around for current and future generations. During your time in Congress, you received a lifetime score of 100% in the Alliance’s Congressional Voting Record. In addition, our members support your candidacy because of your belief in the need to provide more affordable health care for older Americans, as well as the need for stronger retirement and pension security, and quality long term care.
“The Alliance for Retired Americans believes that your election to the Senate will enhance the quality of life for older Americans."
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Alliance for Retired Americans, an organization that shares my strong commitment to fighting for Ohio’s seniors, retirees and working people who want to retire with dignity and security,” said Ted Strickland. “One of the challenges facing Ohio’s working families in this rigged economy is saving enough for retirement while wages are staying flat and the costs for everything required for a middle class life keep going up. No matter how resilient, the safety net and earned benefits that our country provides are lifesaving. That’s why I believe we need to protect Social Security and Medicare from those in Washington like Senator Portman who want to cut benefits, gamble with retirements on the stock market and raise the retirement age. In the U.S. Senate I will stand up for these vital programs at every turn, and fight back against anyone who wants to break our promises to Ohio’s seniors.”
Strickland has also earned endorsements from: President Bill Clinton; U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown; Ohio U.S. Representatives Joyce Beatty, Tim Ryan and Marcia Fudge; The United Auto Workers; The AFL-CIO; The Ohio State Council of Machinists; The Ohio College Democrats; The Ohio Education Association; The Tri County Regional Labor Council; The Painters and Allied Trades District Council 6; the Communications Workers of America District 4; UFCW Local 75; The Transport Workers Union, Ohio-Michigan State Conference; The Ohio Association of Public School Employees; The Youngstown Warren Black Caucus; MoveOn.org; Senator Elizabeth Warren; 29 NE Ohio Democratic Leaders; 30 NW Ohio Democratic Leaders; 124 SE Ohio Democratic Leaders; The Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association; The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party.
