Strickland Campaign Announces Endorsement from Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters

COLUMBUS, OH -- Today the Ted Strickland for Senate campaign announced that Ted has earned the endorsement of the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters (OAPFF).

After promising to support it, Senator Portman voted against the 9/11 First Responders Health Bill --  an important priority for the OAPFF.

In a letter announcing their endorsement, the fire fighters stated the following:

“As governor, you showed your support for professional fire fighters by maintaining local government funds, appointing OAPFF members to important Boards and Commissions that govern our profession, and oversaw a responsive administration taking input and advice from Ohio’s Professional Fire Fighters.

Your support for collective bargaining rights for public employees was never more obvious than during your staunch opposition to Senate Bill 5 in 2011. Your steadfast support of defined benefit employee pensions and your lifetime voting record in support of organized labor help make you an ideal candidate to represent Ohio in the US Senate.

Your vision, integrity, experience and determination to chart the course of our nation and properly represent our state are just a few of the many qualities that we considered when making the decision to endorse you in the US Senate.

The OAPFF represents over 11,000 professional fire fighters and emergency medical professional from more than 250 fire departments in the Buckeye State.”

“I am proud to have earned the endorsement of our brave firefighters and first responders who put their lives on the line every day to protect Ohioans and keep our communities safe,” said Ted Strickland. “In the Senate I will be proud to stand up Ohioans who actually work for a living -- people like our firefighters, our steelworkers, and so many others who are playing by the rules and working as hard as they can to build a good life for themselves and their families. Right now, Washington politicians are looking out for the rich, the powerful and the well-connected, but I’ll fight for Ohio’s working people because that’s where I come from, that’s who I care about and that’s who I’ll always put first.”
