Strickland calls on Governor Kasich to veto legislation
In response to today’s vote by the Ohio Senate Republicans to slash funding for Planned Parenthood, Former Governor Ted Strickland issued the following statement:
"Across Ohio, Planned Parenthood clinics and providers are providing vital, life-saving healthcare services for women and families. This organization provides a range of essential services — from breast cancer screenings to education — that help ensure the health and economic security of some of Ohio’s most vulnerable families. I believe a woman’s healthcare decisions should be between her and her doctor, no one else. This action is a clear example of politicians putting their own narrow interests ahead of what is best for Ohio's citizens. I am calling upon Governor Kasich to veto this legislation and protect the health and safety of Ohio's women.”
Last week on the 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, Strickland held a roundtable discussion with Ohio women where he pledged to protect affordable, accessible women’s healthcare services in the U.S. Senate and highlighted Senator Portman’s record of prioritizing his own Washington politics at the expense of Ohio’s women.
