Governor Strickland’s Jobs Bill

Even before the worst of the current economic crisis in the fall of 2008, Governor Strickland was concerned about the effect of the housing market’s collapse on the economy. That’s why he worked with Ohio legislative leaders to pass a $1.57 billion jobs package aimed at creating and retaining thousands of jobs here in Ohio.

Right now, the bill is helping to lead an economic revival in key industries, including logistics and distribution and advanced energy, while also improving our infrastructure and historic buildings.

Some important features of the plan are:

  • Incentives for advanced energy. The plan includes $150 million for advanced energy, helping make Ohio an epicenter of advanced energy production.
  • Logistics and distribution. Ohio’s location and its excellent infrastructure make it the perfect place for companies who need to move goods and products around the state and nation. To help leverage Ohio’s advantages, the plan includes $100 million to help spur Ohio’s logistics and distribution industry.
  • Improved infrastructure. The package includes $320 million to help build local  roads, bridges, sewers and water systems across Ohio.
  • Preservation of farmland and maintenance of our environment. Governor Strickland’s plan includes $200 million to preserve farmland and greenspace in Ohio.
  • Renewal of urban areas. By providing $200 million for brownfield cleanup, the plan helps Ohio renew urban areas and create new development, growth and jobs.
  • Tax credits for historic preservation. The package includes $120 million for historic preservation tax credits to help revitalize historically significant buildings across the state.
