More funding for energy efficiency in Ohio

on 11/25/09 by Or

The Department of Energy has awarded more than $78 million to two Ohio projects that are working to bring Ohio's electricity grid into the 21st century. Both projects aim to increase Ohio's energy efficiency, benefiting our environment and lowering costs for Ohio families. The projects are also estimated to create roughly 500 jobs.

The two grant recipients are AEP-Ohio, which will use its portion of the funding to develop and demonstrate a regional smart grid program, and the city of Painesville, which is working to use advanced battery technology to manage peak electricity supply and demand.

From Governor Strickland's statement:

This funding will help advance the goals of our energy reform plan, enacted in Senate Bill 221, which encourages the deployment of smart grid technologies so Ohio families and businesses have real-time information to manage their energy use.  Greater energy efficiency is an important tool to help drive down overall energy costs for consumers.  I appreciate the Obama Administration’s partnership with Ohio to advance these efforts.
