Help for those hit hardest

on 12/07/09 by Or

This morning, Governor Strickland announced an extension of unemployment benefits for those hit hardest by the global recession.

The extension will allow Ohioans to continue receiving aid while enrolled in any full-time accredited training or education program that will help them gain the skills necessary to succeed in a new job. Additional help from the federal government will also allow some unemployed Ohioans to receive Pell Grants to cover part of the cost of education and training.

From Ted’s statement on the expansion:

To build a robust economic recovery from the ground up, Ohio’s working people must have every opportunity to get the education and training they need to land the new kinds of jobs our economy is creating. This policy change will help those Ohioans hardest hit by the recession to obtain job training skills without sacrificing their ability to continue providing for their families.
