350 new jobs in Youngstown

on 02/16/10 by Or

Yesterday, Governor Strickland visited Youngstown to announce some terrific news: V&M Star is building a major new facility in Youngstown. The plant will create 350 new high-paying jobs, in addition to about 400 construction workers that will be employed to get the new facilities up and running.

This is the kind of project that would have never happened without state and federal governments working hand in hand with private industry to create jobs. Thanks to infrastructure investment by the Recovery Act and tax incentives from Ohio, V&M Star found the Mahoning Valley to be a competitive place to expand their business.

More from the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

"This facility is in the heart of the old steel corridor where a lot of people never thought they'd see this kind of investment again," said Walt Good, vice president of economic development at the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The site needed major work, which was done by the city thanks to a $20 million state grant, paid for through federal stimulus funds, he said.

"This is an example, I think, of how Ohio has used its stimulus resources in a way that encourages economic development," said Gov. Ted Strickland.
