Columbus, Ohio–Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and Lt. Governor Lee Fisher today encouraged Ohioans to help in the international response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti:
“Today, our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone in Haiti, as well as the family and friends of Haitians here in the United States who may be in search of loved ones or grieving a loss. We know that many Ohioans are looking for ways they can financially assist with the relief efforts in Haiti. We are encouraging Ohioans to donate what they can afford to help the families who are struggling and without essential needs as a result of this catastrophe. The compassion and charity of Ohioans can go a long way toward helping Haitians who may be left with next to nothing.”
Information on how to donate, how to contact family members in Haiti, and private offers of assistance for relief efforts, can be found on the U.S. State Department’s Web site athttp://www.state.gov/p/wha/ci/ha/earthquake/index.htm.
The Ohio Air National Guard has already provided two C-130 “Hercules” cargo aircraft from the Mansfield-based 179th Airlift Wing to provide immediate assistance to Haiti.
